In contemplating how to continue my daily rule blog, I considered a lot of things:
- Changing the frequency of which I blog
- Stopping altogether
- Simplifying my process
- Lowering the word count that I gave myself
- LOTS of other things…
I decided to refine the purpose of this blog even FURTHER. So, I am going to be designating a theme for each month in order to give myself more directed prompts to write from. I have a long list of possible rules to use for this blog, and I have been trying to figure out the best ways to organize them into an editorial calendar for the coming months.
One of the most time consuming tasks of keeping this thing going has actually been choosing which topics will go on which day. Then on the day deciding if I actually want to stick with the topic I’ve assigned myself. Many times, I’ll change the topic on a whim based on events of the current day or the previous for better inspiration. I figured that the most time consuming part was going to be the writing, but it turns out I was wrong and with experience I need to refine my way of doing things.
It seems like that’s a pretty common theme lately in my life. Dream, plan, execute plan, fail or succeed, and refine. I bring up Mark Twain a lot, and I’m almost certain I’ve referenced this quote before as well, but I’ll mention it again:
“The secret of getting ahead is getting started. The secret of getting started is breaking your complex overwhelming tasks into small manageable tasks, and starting on the first one.” ~Mark Twain
SO, to refine and set the purpose for this month, I have decided…surprise, surprise…to go with rules that are related to love, heart, relationships, and all of the “ooey-gooey” stuff that comes along with February and Valentine’s Day. But, I’m excited about the theme. I think love is one of the most difficult and challenging topics to write well about, because everyone writes about it. So, just like with starting this blog…I’ll just get started, fail or succeed, and refine, refine, refine.
